I’ve also been wanting to fast, especially after reading Dr. Jason Fong’s book so many years ago and listening to his recent interview on Dr. Peter Attia’s podcast. For me, it’s about preventing disease (I have reason to be nervous about a couple diseases — not being a hypochondriac), and about resetting. Like you, I’ve been a junk food junkie especially since my husband moved out 9 months ago today. And I’ll be honest and say that the junk food binges have been precipitated by too much wine. “Only” two glasses but it’s enough to drown out the health conscious voice in my head and install a teenager on her first vacation away from her family.
I used to blame my kids for all the junk food in the house but I’ve been an empty nester for nearly three months now. Yikes. It’s hard to acknowledge so much time has passed and yet here I am, as unhealthy as before they left.
I think your idea of preparing for a fast is brilliant. I’m not sure a seven day fast is something I could commit to (maybe four days) but from what I understand, once you’ve made it through three days, it gets far easier.
Hmmm…I may just join you…
